Lars still has a dept to settle with the Olympic Games. After he had switched from lightweight rowing to heavyweight rowing five years ago, he originally had best chances to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 but was then cut off last minute. After a longer time-out, he wanted to take his chance to be part of the double scull this season together with Timo Piontek as his partner. But again, they had skilled competitors and finally Timo Piontek and Lars had to defeat the stronger duo Kruger/Naske. Both continued together in the quad until Lars was replaced at the last Worldcup by Hans Gruhne, who also replaced him for the World Championship.
