Lars is determined to make it to the Olympics once again. In London 2012 he finished 6th in the lightweight double scull and then switched to the heavyweights. After he was robbed of the chance to compete in Rio 2016 in the single scull shortly before the Games, he was able to celebrate a great success two years later. Together with Timo Piontek he became overall World Cup winner 2018 in the double scull.
The Hartig/Piontek duo started as a fixed team and were defeated by Tim Ole Naske and Stephan Krüger in the national double scull decision in May 2019. Afterwards Lars was put on the stroke position in the quad scull, where he was replaced by Hans Gruhne for the last World Cup. Afterwards he relinquished the role of the substitute and watched the World Cup on his home television. The native of Schleswig-Holstein used the time off from competition to keep fit and to gain a training advantage. Due to his erg time of more than 6:00 minutes, Lars is out of the race for the quad scull. Instead, he will start again at the World Cup I with Timo Piontek in the double scull. Is there a successful comeback of the overall World Cup winners of 2018?
Back to overview or continue to the profile of Timo Piontek.
Stephan Krüger is one of the best rowers in Germany: World, European champion and three-time Olympic athlete. But he also has to face the tough selection of the double scull. The seat races are an extreme situation for body and mind, which not all athletes are up to.
